SolidCraft sketch snapping
Checked against the official sketching guide and a hands-on test of the hosted web app at solidcraft.pro/online/app/ (build v0.19.0) on 26 October 2026. Desktop releases may move ahead of that hosted build; when they disagree, prefer the official docs.
How snap works
While you draw in a planar sketch, the pointer snaps to useful points on existing geometry. Snap is on by default. If your build shows a Snap checkbox in the Sketch Palette, leave it enabled. The snap hint shows when a candidate is active.
What snaps
Per the official sketching docs, the pointer snaps to:
- Existing sketch points — endpoints, centres, placed points and similar.
- Line midpoints — hold Shift to prefer a line midpoint when several snaps compete.
- Curve intersections — where two curves cross (two lines, a line and a circle or arc, or two circles or arcs). The new point stays on both curves when either one moves.
Web app note (hosted v0.19.0, 26 Oct 2026): with Snap on we saw on-curve (“On”) hits, origin/centre snaps, horizontal inference (“H”, Y lock), vertical X lock, and a 0.50 mm grid. Midpoint did not appear as a draw-time snap hint in that session (MidPoint remains a constraint you can apply). When a horizontal construction line crossed a circle, the pointer stayed “On” the line and did not lock an intersection snap in our test. Treat intersection and midpoint draw snaps as documented upstream behaviour; re-check on your desktop build if you rely on them.
Modifiers
- Shift — prefer a line midpoint when competing snaps are nearby.
- Ctrl / Cmd or Alt / Option — suppress snap for that gesture (the default suppress chord in the docs).
No AutoCAD-style quadrant snap
SolidCraft does not offer a dedicated circle quadrant / quarter-point snap (the familiar 0° / 90° / 180° / 270° hits on a circle). Command search has no “quadrant” entry. Confirmed on the hosted web app v0.19.0 with Snap enabled on 26 October 2026.
Workarounds for quarter points
- Centre line + axis inference. Draw the circle. Start Line from the circle centre. Move until horizontal (“H”) or vertical inference locks one axis, then click when the hint shows On the circle while that axis is still locked. That places the cardinal (east/west or north/south) points. Repeat for the other axis.
- Placed point + dimensions. Use Point, then dimension from the centre with a horizontal or vertical constraint and a length equal to the radius (or an expression of the radius parameter).
- Construction diameters. Turn on Construction (X), draw diameter lines through the centre along H/V, and put coincident points where they meet the circle.
Try it
Open a sketch in the web editor on this site (or your desktop install) and practise the centre-line workaround above. Full reference: docs.solidcraft.io — Sketching and constraints.
